Thanks to hard work and an innovative approach, the Plana Solutions team implemented the first ever full warehouse automation project - entirely through a proprietary ERP integration with autonomous mobile robots.
One of the biggest challenges was working with a Chinese manufacturer's system that is not compatible with the default ERP platform. Through intensive communication and custom middleware developed by the Plana team, a fully functional integration was achieved.
To date, the multi-acre warehouse can function without human intervention. The robots are controlled remotely and in real time via an ERP system upgraded with Plana development.
After a request in the system, the robots move boxes from the shelves to the picking or replenishment areas - accurately, quickly and in sync. In addition, inventory and maximum capacity are monitored, and a special barcode system - helps to properly manage the boxes and their contents.
This allows orders to be processed faster, inventory to be sourced in real time, and the warehouse to operate 24 hours, 7 days a week. Additional benefits to the customer include avoided preparation and shipping errors, reduced operational costs and freed up people resources for other key activities
